Wish your family and you a safe, peaceful weekend celebration of the anniversary of the birth of the republic.
Do more than simply barbeque, shop the mall or spend the time in idle endeavor.
Recall Benjamin Franklin's response to the inquiry made of him as he emerged from the constitutional convention some 235 years ago.
Q: (directed to Benjamin Franklin: "Well doctor what have we got? A monarchy or a republic?"
A: (Framklin to inquiring lady: "A republic---if you can keep it!")
At keeping the republic it appears we failed by 4 Jul 1826. (the day that Jefferson and Adams both died within hours of each other) "The revolution is over."
Now keeping whatever it is we have left, an oligarchy (rule by the few---usually wealthy elite) it seems is inevitable. Regaining our republic---if possible requires participation, awareness and wanting to "keep it."
