Two years ago when Obama seemed to come out of nowhere to be the Democratic candidate for the highest office in the republic I tried to warn, friends, family.
The moment was one not unfamiliar to me. My political indoctrination had been the 1968 presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy. It was a tumultuous time. Gary Powers, the U.S.S. Pueblo, war protesters, the unfair and class-driven military draft, assassinations and the obligatory SALT sound bites filled the nightly news.
Kennedy stood in the stead of his brother and gave us “hope.” I had worn the skimmer hat, button and excitement. No one can say what might have been. But in the case of President Obama that is not the case.
I can’t tell you that Mr. Obama had it all planned. I can tell you that he did indeed come out of nowhere.
There were, for me, intuitive factors that beckoned caution. I’ve seen too much. More on this at another time.
